Background and goals

Both Japan and The Netherlands have a strong tradition in parasitoid biology, with a shared focus on behaviour and biology. In 2010, we organized a Japan-Netherlands joint seminar on parasitoid biology in Tokyo, in order to bring together these lines of research and generate new collaborations. We specifically addressed the importance of genomic technologies in the study of parasitoid behaviour and ecology. The forthcoming release of several new parasitoid genomes, in addition to the extension of the genomic toolkit for parasitoids (e.g. RNAseq, RAD-sequencing, RNAi, bisulfite methylome sequencing), is likely to change the field of parasitoid biology in the near future. In order for Japanese and Dutch researchers to work and collaborate at the forefront of this changing field, we organize a follow-up to the successful Tokyo 2010 seminar in Tokyo.
